HCG diets receive mixed reviews from doctors and dieters alike. Some claim that the extreme weight loss system is more effective than any other plan, while some believe it is unsustainable and dangerous. But one thing is undeniable: a low-calorie diet combined with injections of HCG (human chronic gonadotropin) cause rapid weight loss.

Women produce large amounts of the HCG hormone when they’re pregnant. In the early stages of pregnancy, HCG lowers the appetite and may cause nausea. Hormone imbalance is one of the lead causes for weight gain, and HCG helps the body regulate hormone deficiency. Low calorie weight loss programs are ineffective because they force the body to burn fat reserves and muscles before targeting the abnormal fat deposits. The abnormal fat, stored in buttocks, stomach, upper arms, and tights, is what dieters struggle to lose. But with a low calorie diet, below 1200 calories a day, the brain thinks there’s a risk of starvation and goes into an emergency mode. That’s when the body starts storing as much fat as possible by slowing down the metabolic rate. This process leaves the dieter feeling weak, agitated, and hungry.

The HCG hormone breaks up the abnormal fat stores and allows the body to burn it for energy. This is why patients on HCG don’t feel hunger even on an extremely low diet plan. Some doctors claim that HCG releases into the bloodstream as many as 1500-4000 calories every day. This is why on the HCG diet patients can eat as little as 500 calories per day. Some opponents of this plan believe that the weight loss results only last as long as the HCG hormone is present. But many happy dieters say that after the program they naturally ate less because the stomach shrinks with so little food intake every day. Also, some use it as a starting point to completely rework their eating habits. The HCG diet is most successful with injections of the hormone but that has to be prescribed and carried out by a doctor.
